Privacy Policy

Effective 11 August 2026 · Last updated 11 August 2026 (rev. 2) · Supersedes the version of 5 August 2026

Bariqo itself collects nothing. Its advertising does.

There is no Bariqo account and no Bariqo server. We receive no data about you and could not identify a single user of this app if we tried. But the free version of Bariqo shows advertisements served by Google AdMob, and Google collects data about your device in order to serve and measure them. Premium subscribers see no advertisements, and no advertising data is collected from them.

1. What changed, and when

The version of this policy dated 5 August 2026 said that Bariqo contained “no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracking code of any kind”. That was true when it was written. It stopped being true on 10 August 2026, when the Google Mobile Ads SDK was added to the app.

This version corrects it. Nothing about our own data handling has changed — we still operate no servers and still receive nothing — but a third party now processes data through the app, and saying otherwise would be false.

Revised later on 11 August 2026, when the full Qur’an reader was added. It stores a reading position, bookmarks and your chosen text sizes on your device, and makes no network requests at all. Sections 4 and 9 describe it. We still receive nothing, and no new data is collected about you.

2. Who we are

Bariqo is developed and published by Mahmoud Mekawy (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at M.mekkawy6789@gmail.com.

This policy covers the Bariqo iOS app and its Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. It does not cover the App Store itself, which is operated by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy.

3. What we collect

Nothing, directly. We operate no servers and receive no data from the app. We do not know how many people use Bariqo, which screens they open, or what they read. We do not collect your name, email address, or IP address, and there is no Bariqo account to hold any of it against.

Bariqo contains no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK of our own. It does contain an advertising SDK, and that SDK collects data for Google. Section 5 sets out exactly what.

4. What stays on your device

Bariqo stores the following locally, on your device only:

Data Why
Your settings — theme, calligraphy style, numerals, translation visibility, prayer calculation method, Hijri offset, widget configuration So the app and its widgets look and behave the way you left them
Saved verses, hadith, azkar and poetry, and your saved widget designs So your library persists between launches
Azkar counts, reading progress and streaks So a counter you started is still there tomorrow
Your Qur’an reading position and last-read verse So “continue reading” returns you to where you stopped
Your Qur’an bookmarks, and the Arabic and translation text sizes you chose So the verses you saved and the sizes you set are still there next time
Your most recent location coordinates To compute prayer times and qibla direction, and to fetch weather
Cached prayer times and weather So widgets can render without waking the app or the network
Any temporary unlock earned by watching a rewarded advertisement, and when it expires So a reward you chose to earn lasts as long as it should
Your advertising consent choice So you are not asked again, and so the advertising SDK can read it

This data lives in the app’s own container and in a shared App Group container that the widgets read from. Both are private to Bariqo. Deleting the app removes all of it, immediately and completely.

Deleting your Qur’an reading data without deleting the app. Open Settings ▸ Clear Quran Reading Data. That removes your reading position, your bookmarks and your chosen text sizes, and nothing else — your saved content, your settings, your subscription and your advertising choice are all left alone. Individual bookmarks can also be removed one at a time, at the same tap that added them.

If you have iCloud Backup enabled, iOS may include this data in your device backup. That backup belongs to you and to Apple; we have no access to it.

5. Advertising

Bariqo is free to use and is supported by advertising. Premium subscribers see no advertisements at all.

Free users see a small banner on the Home, Widgets and Settings screens, and a card labelled Sponsored in the Library. There is also an optional rewarded video: you choose to watch it in exchange for temporarily unlocking a premium look. Nothing plays unless you tap it.

Advertising never appears in the Qur’an, hadith or azkar readers, in prayer times, in the qibla, or in the share card studio. That is a deliberate product decision and it is enforced in the app’s code rather than left to habit.

For the Qur’an this covers the entire feature, not only the page you read on: the surah list, the reader, the translation and commentary sheet, and the credits screen all carry no advertisement of any kind, and none of them leaves an empty space where one would otherwise go. That is true for free and for premium users alike.

Advertising is served by Google AdMob, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. When an advertisement is requested, Google receives and processes:

Data Purpose
Coarse (approximate) location, derived from your IP address Serving locally relevant advertisements; measurement
Device identifiers Serving and measuring advertisements, and limiting how often you see the same one
Advertising data — which advertisements were requested, shown, viewed or tapped Measurement and billing
Product interaction data Advertisement delivery and measurement
Diagnostics — crash and performance data from the SDK itself Advertisement delivery and SDK reliability

Google is an independent controller of that data. What it does with it is governed by Google’s own policies, not ours:

Bariqo does not ask for permission to track you. The app does not present Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt, so it never receives your device’s advertising identifier (the IDFA). Advertisements are non-personalised or contextual as a result — less relevant to you, and less lucrative for us. That was a deliberate choice.

6. Your advertising consent (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are somewhere consent is legally required — the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland — Bariqo shows Google’s consent form before requesting any advertisement, using Google’s User Messaging Platform. No advertisement is requested until you have answered it.

Your choice is stored on your device in the standard IAB Transparency & Consent Framework format, and it is what the advertising SDK reads.

You can change your mind at any time: Settings ▸ Ad privacy options. That reopens the same form. If you withdraw consent, any advertisement already loaded is discarded rather than shown.

Where consent is not legally required, the form is not shown and no consent is recorded.

7. Location

Bariqo asks for your location only while you are using the app (“When In Use”), and only when you tap something that needs it. It never requests background or always-on location access.

Location permission is optional. If you decline it you can enter a city manually, and every other part of the app continues to work normally.

8. Apple services

WeatherKit

When weather is displayed, the app sends your approximate location to Apple to retrieve a forecast. Apple states that this data is not used to identify or profile you, and it is not shared with us. See Apple’s Weather & Privacy notice. If you never enable weather, no such request is made.

In-app purchases

Bariqo Premium is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the entire transaction. We never see your payment details — no card number, no billing address, no name. The app asks Apple only whether a valid purchase exists, and receives a yes or no.

9. Qur’an content

The Qur’an is inside the app, and reading it uses no network at all. The complete Arabic text, the English translation and the classical Arabic commentary are stored on your device when you install Bariqo. Reading, searching, bookmarking and reading commentary therefore work with no internet connection, and make no network request of any kind.

Nothing about what you read, search for or bookmark is sent anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to be sent. We operate no servers, and the Qur’an feature contacts no third party.

The bundled text comes from the Tanzil Project (Qur’an text), the Pickthall English translation, and Tafsir al-Jalalayn in Arabic. Full credits and licences are in the app under Qur’an ▸ … ▸ Credits & Licences.

This version of Bariqo does not include recitation audio.

10. Notifications

If you allow notifications, prayer and azkar reminders are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. There is no push server. We cannot send you a message, and we cannot tell whether you opened one.

11. Sharing

When you share a verse or a hadith as an image, iOS’s standard share sheet hands it to whichever app you choose. What happens next is governed by that app’s privacy policy, not ours. The image is generated on your device and is never uploaded to us.

12. The widget extension

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets make no network requests at all and contain no advertising SDK. They read what the app has already saved to the shared container and draw it.

13. Children

Bariqo is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will act on it.

Because the app serves advertising, it is not configured for distribution under programmes requiring child-directed treatment.

14. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent.

An earlier version of this policy said such rights did not apply because no personal data was retained by anyone. That is no longer accurate and has been corrected.

15. Data retention

We retain nothing, because we receive nothing. Data on your device persists until you delete the app. Google’s retention of advertising data is governed by Google’s policies.

16. Changes to this policy

Material changes are reflected here with a new effective date, and the date at the top always describes the current version. The introduction of advertising in August 2026 was such a change, and this document is that update.
